QWRKhouse began as a creative exploration into a new medium. As Industrial Designers living in the BC Interior, the appeal of 3D printing as art was the freedom it provided to explore form and expression.
The greatest challenge was understanding a new set of constraints and how they applied to what would be a successful print or what would ultimately fail, and learning what ways you could push the limits.

Applied art
Our first love in design has always been furniture
Taking the principles we established in the art practice and applying them to the design and development of furniture pieces seemed like a very natural transition, especially when the scale of our 3D printers finally enabled this
We have challenged ourselves and the typical style of 3D printed furniture with this collection.

Productivity with care
Currently, we print with PLA, because it is non-toxic and derived from renewable fermented plant starch, an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastics.
We attempt to print with little to no support material to eliminate production waste.
Our business model is “print on demand” or "produce by request", so we only make what is desired. We feel this is the best way to maintain creativity and productivity, with care.
